About

A life-long book lover, and avid reader, Jessica Verday wrote her first story when she was eleven. Titled "Bobby's Bazillion Bananas" it was about a boy named Bobby who planted a banana in his backyard and it sprouted into a banana tree overnight. There were - you guessed it - a bazillion bananas.

If she could have any superpower, she'd want to have X-Ray vision and the ability to make no-calorie cupcakes appear out of thin air. When not daydreaming about moving into a library of her own, she can be found working on her next story, taking a nap, or buying vintage furniture. She likes: rainy nights, warm blankets, old postcards, baby animals, cemeteries, Johnny Cash, handmade jewelry, zombie movies, L.J. Smith books, abandoned buildings, trains and snow.

Songs that make me want to write:

Wreck of the Day by Anna Nalick
Is this a literal or figurative wreck? Why is she giving up? Who is she talking about in this song? Does she go anywhere else? Why doesn't she stop to help the victims, if this is a literal car wreck? Maybe she can't talk and she's afraid to stop, because of living her whole life being shunned by society. Hmm...this could make a good story...

Love Like Winter by AFI
So is this about a place where December lasts every day? Where is that? I wonder if it snows every day? Is it ruled by an Ice Queen? Is she evil, or maybe just misunderstood? Or maybe it's about a someone's love being as cold as ice. Is their heart frozen? What would it take to melt it? Ooooh, I could totally write a story about this...

Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy
Why can I see these people so vividly in my head? What beautiful imagery. Ok, so there's palm trees and Spanish lullabies - clearly, they are someplace exotic. But, wait, why did he leave her? Is he a spy on the run for his life? Or maybe he's just a jerk. I know! He could be a spy-jerk who gets amnesia. Yeah, what a story that would be...

Grave Digger by Dave Matthews Band
Wow, talk about a lot of neat grave inscriptions. I wonder if this is being told from the grave digger, or to the grave digger? Maybe it's a song by the grave digger's apprentice. And why would someone want to feel the rain when they're dead? Unless they're not really dead... Are they in a coma? Do vampires ever fall into comas? I wonder what would happen if I...
